What changes when the client is abroad?

A cross-border invoice is more than a payment request. It is a business record that explains who supplied what, where the transaction sits, how tax was treated and what the customer owes.

  1. Supplier details

Business identity, address, origin and the registration number used in that jurisdiction.

  2. Client details

Billing identity, destination, business status and customer tax registration where relevant.

  3. Tax treatment

The rate, place-of-supply context and whether an export or reverse charge applies.

  4. Invoice wording

A plain legal note that records why tax was charged, not charged or accounted for by the customer.

One route. One working explanation.

Billr Invoice connects the selections a generic invoice template leaves separate.

  1. 1

    Set the route

Choose the supplier origin, client destination and whether the customer is a registered business or consumer.

  2. 2

    Review the starting rule

The generator changes registration labels, the editable rate, treatment summary, caution and suggested invoice wording together.

  3. 3

    Build the invoice

Add parties, dates, currency, line items, item-level tax overrides, notes, bank instructions and an optional payment link.

  4. 4

    Verify and export locally

Compare the form with the live paper preview, check the facts of the supply, then download a selectable-text PDF on the device.

Country selections are a starting point, not a legal conclusion. Product taxability, exemptions, thresholds, nexus, evidence, importer status and special place-of-supply rules may change the result.

VAT, GST and sales-tax invoice guidance

The engine uses one inspectable rules module so the interface, preview, country-pair pages and PDF refer to the same decision.

When the customer accounts for the tax

A reverse charge can move the obligation to account for VAT or GST from the supplier to the business customer. That does not make the invoice tax-free by default: the parties, supply type, place of supply and registrations still matter.

For qualifying business-to-business services, the invoice commonly needs the customer's tax registration and clear reverse-charge wording. Billr Invoice brings that wording into the preview instead of leaving it in a separate checklist.

Your invoice stays on your side of the border.

Supplier addresses, client tax IDs and banking details are sensitive. Billr Invoice does not require an account or send the invoice form to an application server.

International invoice generator FAQ

Clear answers to the questions that usually appear before the first cross-border invoice is sent.

What is an international invoice?

An international invoice records a sale where the supplier and customer are in different jurisdictions. It normally identifies both parties, the supply, currency, payment terms, tax registrations, tax treatment and any wording required for an export or reverse-charge transaction.

Can I create an invoice without making an account?

Yes. Billr Invoice requires no login. The form, calculations, logo and PDF generation run in the browser session.

Does the generator automatically calculate VAT or GST?

It provides an editable starting treatment based on origin, destination and whether the customer is a business or consumer. Product type, place-of-supply exceptions, registrations and evidence can change the result, so the guidance must be verified for the actual transaction.

What is a reverse-charge invoice?

Under a reverse charge, the customer rather than the supplier accounts for the relevant VAT or GST. A qualifying invoice usually needs both parties' registration details and clear reverse-charge wording.

Can I invoice in a foreign currency?

Yes. The generator supports common global currencies and formats the subtotal, tax and total consistently throughout the preview and PDF.

Does Billr Invoice support US sales tax?

The tool flags US sales tax as a state and local review because the applicable obligation can depend on nexus, customer location, product taxability and exemptions. It does not pretend a country selection alone can determine the correct rate.

Are my bank and tax details uploaded?

No. This version has no server action, account database or invoice API. Entered details are held in the page session and the PDF is produced on the device.

Is the tax guidance legal advice?

No. It is educational guidance and an editable starting point. Check current official rules or obtain professional advice for the facts of an actual supply.
